Granbury High School band members scored Division I superior ratings at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest on May 29, 2016, at the University of Texas at Austin.

Senior Brennan Ross (pictured above) was named an Outstanding Soloist for his French horn solo “Concerto No. 3.”  The award is bestowed by each judge to performers who attain superior musicianship.

Receiving the top mark for solos were Lauren Boleng (flute) for “Sonata for Flute and Piano,” Meghan Childers (percussion) for “Rain Dance,” and Aaron Morgan (tuba) for “Sonata for Tuba.”

Others receiving excellent ratings were:  soloist Ashleigh Hallmark (percussion) for “A Cricket Sang and Set the Sun”; flute trio Lauren Boleng, Tiffany Henney, and Mallory Irish for “Scherzo for Three”; saxophone ensemble Kalvin Hughes, Emma McKelvain, Savannah Oliver, Hannah Pallett, and Sam Perez for “March (from The Love of Three Oranges)”; French horn quartet Katlyn Backus, Ian Cone, Brennan Ross, and Lily Thornton for “Fripperies Volume 2.”

Along with the Texas Music Educators Association’s All-State audition process, the TSSEC is the top musical competition in the state featuring band students who earned a Division I at the regional level with memorized solos and ensembles.
