Top ensembles from Granbury ISD bands are advancing in the Texas Music Educators Association’s state honor band competition after winning top marks from regional judges on June 8, 2017, at Keller Central High School.

 

 

Granbury High School’s Wind Ensemble won first among Class 5A high school varsity bands in the Region 30 contest, after judges reviewed concert recordings during the day-long regional event.

 

The Wind Ensemble performed “Who’s Who in Navy Blue” by John Philip Sousa and arranged by Frank Byrne, “Symphony in Bb for Band” by Paul Hindemith, and “Paris Sketches” by Martin Ellerby and edited by Timothy Reynish.

 

Among Class 2C middle schools, Honors Bands from Granbury Middle School and Acton Middle School placed first and second respectively.

 

 

The GMS program featured “Hosts of Freedom” by Karl L. King and arranged by John P. Paynter, “Our Kingsland Spring” by Samuel Hazo, and “La Madre de los Gatos” by Brian Beck.

 

 

 

AMS students performed “Imperial” by Karl L. King and arranged by James Swearingen, “Scenes from Terezin” by Jack Stamp, and “Be Thou My Vision” by Larry Clark.

 

Each of the groups earned Division I superior ratings for their concert performances during UIL competitions as well as top marks during invitational festivals this spring.

 

The three bands are advancing to the area level with a new panel of judges set to review concert recordings on June 22-23 at Abilene Christian University.
