“FLAT STANLEY” COMING TO GISD ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

December 2, 2019

Flat Stanley Jr

Granbury High School theater students will perform for elementary school audiences during presentations of The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr. on December 10-13, 2019.

“Stanley Lambchomp, who is your ordinary, everyday ten-year-old until the bulletin board on the wall above his bed comes loose and falls right on top of him. The next morning, Stanley wakes up flat,” according to Music Theatre International. “In a whirlwind musical travelogue, Stanley – the ultimate exchange student – scours the globe for a solution to his unusual problem. He's stamped, posted and cancelled from Hollywood to France to Honolulu and beyond all in an effort to become a three-dimensional boy once more. Stanley’s journey takes him all across the globe to many interesting locales filled with lots of colorful characters, which make for great casting opportunities."

Jack Watson will star as the title character – everyone's favorite two-dimensional hero.

Others in the cast are Amy Adams, Isaiah Ambler, Jack Barefoot, Emmie Beaird, Jaime Bent, Trinidad Carrillo, Zander Durham, Caleb Fisher, Luke Forrest, Alexander Funk, Sykora Hatten, Holly Hodges, Kylie Pickett, Levi Reese, Nicole Rickenbrode, Adam Stone, Hannah Swaim, Avery Thomas, Jillian Tremble, Lou Whiting, and Tiffany Wynne.

The musical tour of all six GISD elementary campuses is funded by a $3,764 grant from the Granbury ISD Education Foundation and the foundation’s Top Chef Sponsor, H-E-B.

“This will promote the arts to these students, also allowing them to see future opportunities in extracurricular activities,” explained theater teachers Mark Weeks and Melissa Hutson in their grant proposal.

The musical is presented by special arrangement with MTI. The production was based on the beloved children’s books written by Jeff Brown and illustrated by Scott Nash.

GHS theater students last toured the elementary schools in February 2016 with the same production.
