Granbury High School students Alyssa Garcia and Hannah Swaim qualified for All-State ensembles of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) during recent area auditions on January 11, 2020.
Garcia, a senior trumpet player, will select among various Class 5A state bands and orchestras at the beginning of the 2020 TMEA Clinic/Convention.
A junior, Swaim will perform with the All-State Women’s Choir.
All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. The GHS students were chosen through a competitive process involving auditions held this school year throughout the state. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group advances from each of the twenty-eight regions to compete against others in seven area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians are selected for the state ensembles from among the 55,000 band, choir, and orchestra students that initially entered the multi-level musical competition.
The All-State groups will perform on Saturday, February 15 during the state convention at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. The students in the state ensembles participate in three days of rehearsals by nationally-recognized conductors. Their performances before thousands of attendees bring the convention to a close.
Also competing at the area auditions were: band – Megan Bednarz, Bailey Carlton, Luke Mankowski, Maddie Purvis; choir – Joshua Courtney, Ashton Lemens, Adam Stone.
