Acton Middle School bands won sweepstakes honors at UIL concert and sightreading contest on March 25, 2021, in Glen Rose.
Both the varsity honors band the junior varsity symphonic band earned Division I superior ratings from judges for both stage and sightreading performances.
“I am so proud of our band kids,” commented AMS band director April Page in announcing the Division I ratings. “They did an amazing job.”

“Some of these kids started the year online, some of them were quarantined for weeks at a time, and all of them only had a partial band experience last year,” remarked assistant director Stephanie Bosch. “We have dealt with masks, bell covers, flute shields, Zoom, outside rehearsals, playing at 6-foot distances, fewer concerts and performance opportunities, no band parties, and more. Despite all of these hardships, these students have worked hard to achieve their goals, and it all paid off.”
Bands at Granbury Middle School also earned sweepstakes at similar competition on March 4 in Glen Rose.
The GHS Band ensembles will be at competition on April 21-22 at Burleson High School. For choir, Granbury High School will host the competition for Region 30 south zone schools on April 14. Middle school choirs recorded performances and competed virtually.
