Granbury High School band students performed during a Chamber Night and Concerto on May 12, 2022, in the GHS Bagby-McMahan Performing Arts Center.

Honored was tuba soloist Archie Hensley, who performed “Sonate, mvt 1” by Paul Hindemeth, to be named the concerto winner.  Runner-up was Katelynn Sukampo, a flute player whose solo was “Kokopeli” by Katherine Hoover.

Other concerto finalists were:  Sully Brown, marimba; Jourdan Herzog, trumpet; Alek Mankowski, euphonium; Maddie Purvis, flute.

Named the top ensemble was a saxophone quartet performing “Strange Humors” by John Mackey. The group included Alex Call on soprano saxophone, Saphyre Sneed on alto saxophone, Caitlyn Jacobs on tenor saxophone, and Mattias Piatt on baritone saxophone.  Percussion accompaniment was by Ty Hintz.

  • Clarinet Quartet – Silas Hughes, Emily Juarez, Anna Sommerfeld, Ashley Sukampo
  • Flute Quartet – Haylee Ivey, Cameron Magat, Madison Roman, Julia Vargas
  • Flute Trio – Ivan Perez, Maddie Purvis, Katelynn Sukampo
  • Trombone Trio – Joey DeBello, Ben Nguyen, Jared Rosas
  • Trumpet Quintet – Jourdan Herzog, Bailey James, Darik Johnson, Kate Mauldin, Darcy Welch
  • Tuba Quartet – Tony Castrejon (euphonium), Jerry Dobbs (euphonium), Zeke Shaum (tuba), Jonathan Villalobos (tuba)
  • Tuba Quartet – Archie Hensley (tuba), Alek Mankowski (euphonium), Luke Mankowski, Heri Tovar (trombone)
  • Woodwind Quintet – Clayton Christy (bass clarinet), Kaitlyn Frost (alto saxophone), Ivan Perez (clarinet), Cooper Sanderson (bassoon), Lillian Welch (oboe)
