The
students were selected not only for their involvement in GHS athletics but also
for their academic achievements. They also represent a cross-section of high
school athletic teams.
“We
are grateful for the generous donations made by both Shiner Energy and Mr. and
Mrs. Durant,” commented GEF president Stacy Mitchell, who added that the
scholar athlete recognition program will likely continue in the coming years
with further donations.
All of
the students will be invited to submit scholarship applications in the
spring. Winners of the scholarships will
be announced at the high school’s Senior Awards Night on Thursday, May 19.
The
Shiner Energy award is named the Briggs Berry Scholarship.
Based
in Granbury, Shiner Energy is an oil and gas acquisition and consulting company
with nearly twenty years of industry experience and is involved in ten
states. The Durants own a number of car
dealerships and are also involved in Thoroughbred horse racing.
