District Advisory Committee Meeting
October 2, 2014
Minutes
Meeting was called at 4:30 p.m. with introductions of district staff and community members.
Dr. Largent, Superintendent, welcomed the members gave an update on the Granbury ISD Bond Election and opened up questions to the committee members.
District Improvement Plan
Accountability
Carol Howard, Assistant Superintendent, outlined the State Accountably for 2013-14. All GISD campuses met standards, some with distinctions.
Specific items to be addressed at the district level are:
· Math 3rd – 8th grades
· Reading 3rd – 7th grades
· Writing for 4th, 7th, and ELA EOC
· Attendance
· EOC exams. There are 31 students who still need to pass English 1 or II to graduate.
Ms. Howard requested feedback from the Student and Community Engagement Questionnaire.
Professional Development Survey and Comprehensive Needs Assessment
Sharon Williams, Director of Curriculum, reviewed the Professional Development Survey from 2013-14. Last year, the professional development team viewed data from the survey. After reviewing the same, vocabulary was an overall concern that was pushed at this year’s Summer Conference. There was also software that was purchased, PD360. Another survey will be sent out at the end of this month to review data and more Professional Development in the future.
Proposals
Sharon Williams, Director of Curriculum, outlined the District Improvement Plan and the Comprehensive Needs Assessment which is scheduled to be presented to the board on October 20, 2014. This plan mirrors GISD’s Strategic Plan. Included in this plan are the safeguards that were outlined by Mrs. Howard. In addition all staff will be trained and implementing PBL by August 2015. Ms. Williams asked for additional needs that the committee would recommend. All members agreed that the plan was good as stands.
