District Advisory Committee Meeting

February 5, 2015         



Meeting was called by Dr. Largent, Superintendent, at 4:30 p.m. with introductions of district staff and community members. 

Bond and Legislative Update

Dr. Largent, Superintendent, gave an update on the Granbury ISD Bond and the current legislative session.


Dr. Largent, Superintendent, opened up conversation regarding the 2015-16 GISD School Calendar. Dr. Largent informed the committee that Martin Luther King Day would be a school holiday for students and staff for the 2015-16 school year. When asked for feedback regarding Spring Break, the committee had no issues with Spring Break as it is currently scheduled, March 14-18, 2016.

Sharon Williams, Director of Curriculum, advised the committee that waivers had been applied for through the TEA which gives the district the week of Thanksgiving off and for staff development days. These waivers are applied for annually.  

Professional Development Survey  

Sharon Williams, Director of Curriculum, reviewed the Professional Development Survey. The survey revealed that time to collaborate with staff and meeting the needs of diverse learners were important items. These items and others will be addressed during Summer Conference. Ms. Williams also reported that the summer conference might be adjusted due to construction at the high school.

Community and Student Engagement

Carol Howard, Assistant Superintendent, gave an update on the Community and Student Engagement Criteria as required by HB 5.  The evaluation spreadsheet will be taken to campuses and the locally determined criteria will be rated by staff.
