FRESHMAN TO ATTEND SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

April 2, 2015

Boyd Brooke Boyd, a freshman at Crossland Ninth Grade Center, has been selected to attend the Congress of Future Scientists and Technology Leaders on June 28-30, 2015, in Boston.

The conference is organized by the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists for high school honor students who are passionate about science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).

At the Congress, students will be mentored by luminaries in a wide variety of scientific fields as well as leaders from government and the public sector, including Nobel Laureates, top scientific university deans, and leaders in scientific research and cutting-edge technology, as well as leaders from private industry.

“When I think of the intelligence and ingenuity that got us on the moon – and brought us back – and how it has developed and influenced since then, I am excited for the future and especially future space travel. Yet, there are things we can do now to make the future even brighter,” commented Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the academy’s science director.

Aldrin continued, “The academy provides young people, parents, and teachers with information and guidance on the wide-ranging opportunities in STEM fields through free services including educational programs, mentoring teleseminars, a library, and a social network that connects young people with each other and also with STEM professionals and academicians.”

Based at Harvard University, the national academy was chartered as a nonpartisan, taxpaying institution to help identify, encourage, and mentor students who wish to devote their lives to advances in society as scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians.
