SUMMER TECH CAMP PLANNED FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS

April 28, 2016

The Granbury ISD career and technical education department will host a Gateway to Technology summer camp on June 20-23, 2016, for students who will be in middle school during the 2016-17 school year.

The tech camp is open to all students who will be in grades 6-8 at Acton Middle School or Granbury Middle School next school year.

Gateway to Technology Camp A full-day session from 9:00 A.M. until 3:30 P.M will be held each of the four days at GMS.  The registration fee is $90.  A limited number of scholarships are available.  Lunch through the Healthy Kids summer lunch program will be available, but students may bring their lunch as well.  District transportation will not be available.

The camp will encourage students to work collaboratively within groups and use critical thinking skills to create various projects.  Included are a wide variety of hands-on activities with rockets, race cars, airplanes, physics, and engineering.

GTT is the beginning of the Project Lead The Way engineering courses, which prepare students to be innovative and productive leaders and to make meaningful, pioneering contributions to our world.  The program provides a rigorous education through an engaging, hands-on curriculum and helps students develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creative and innovative reasoning, and a love of learning.

Through the class, AMS and GMS students are getting a head start on high school-level courses through the GTT classes, which include an activity-oriented program designed to challenge and engage the natural curiosity of middle school students.  The program is taught in conjunction with a rigorous academic curriculum that includes courses on design and modeling, electrons, the science of technology, and automation and robotics.
