LAW ENFORCEMENT TEAM EXCELS AT STATE CONTEST

Law and Public Safety Team

 

Granbury High School law and public safety students excelled at the 11th Annual Texas Public Service Association State Competition on March 23-24, 2018, at Klein Cain High School.

 

Students placing at the TPSA state event were:

  • Accident Investigation Team: Mayra Arriaga, Abbi Henry, and Leizliann Martinez, third
  • Firefighter Agility: Isaiah Garcia, second
  • Firefighter Bunker: Isaiah Garcia, third
  • Firefighter Search & Rescue: Colin Pieren, first
  • First Responder: Haley McLane, first; Giovanni Jimenez, second
  • Obstacle Course (Female): Anna Elkins, first

Law and public safety is part of the Granbury ISD career and technical education program.  Classes are offered to provide overviews for jobs in public service as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement.  Students explore the legal system in addition to constitutional and criminal law through mock trials, traffic stops, arrest procedures, and court systems.  Advanced courses are available in criminal investigation, forensic science, forensic psychology, and practicums with local agencies.

 

Former Hood County deputy Cari Davis leads the law and public safety classes, while forensics is taught by Darlene Windham.  Serving as mentors are individuals with the Granbury Police Department and Hood County Sheriff’s Office.

 

GHS students only began competing in TPSA competitions during the 2016-17 school year.
