Granbury ISD career and
technical education director Judy Gentry was the recipient of a top award at
the Granbury Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Best of Business Awards Banquet on
February 3, 2017, at the Granbury Resort Conference Center.
Gentry was awarded the Howard
Clemmons Distinguished Service Award during a banquet featuring several
awards for local businesses and chamber volunteers. The Clemmons award goes to individuals who
most closely represent a former chamber chairman’s unselfish dedication to the
chamber and the people of Granbury and Hood County.
Starting
in the GISD as a teacher at Granbury High School in 1997, Gentry was named the
campus Teacher of the Year for the 2008-09 school year. She became the district CTE director in
September 2009. Gentry also has been
president of the Career and Technical Educators of North Texas, which serves
the Dallas-Fort Worth area covered by the Regions 10 and 11 education service
centers.
During Gentry’s tenure and leadership,
the CTE program has grown to include a number of successful opportunities for
students – a few include F1 in Schools, Project Lead The Way engineering
program, and Eagle’s Nest aviation program.
Gentry has also expanded community partnerships with Luminant and
Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant, Lake Granbury Medical Center, Granbury
Police Department. A new addition at the transformed high school includes state-of-the-art
facilities. CTE offers numerous career
pathways and high school endorsement options for students.
