Granbury High School law and public safety students placed second in a SWAT team competition on March 4, 2017, at GHS.  Six students are advancing to the state level in the contest sponsored by the Texas Public Service Association.

 

The SWAT team members are Chase Baker, Kenia Cortes, Dylan Goosen, Freeman Hawker, Sam Henthorn, and Kollin Ladesic.

 

The team will be joining five other GHS students – Abbi Henry, Leizliann Martinez, Lexi Nelson, Kailey Reason, and Shelly Yauri.– at the state contest on April 7-8 at El Paso Bel Air High School.  The other students qualified in other events at the TPSA Northeast Regional competition in February.

 

Law and public safety is part of the Granbury ISD career and technical education program.  Classes are offered to provide overviews for jobs in public service as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement.  Students explore the legal system in addition to constitutional and criminal law through mock trials, traffic stops, arrest procedures, and court systems.  Advanced courses are available in criminal investigation, forensic science, forensic psychology, and practicums with local agencies.

 

Cari Davis, a former Hood County Sheriff’s Office deputy, leads the law and public safety classes.  Serving as mentors are individuals with the sheriff’s office and Granbury Police Department.
