Chemistry and culinary students at Granbury High School teamed up to make and serve some tasty Christmas treats at a “Chemistree Café” on December 14, 2018.
Through Project Based Learning, students explored the chemistry behind the tastes and aromas of the festive holiday season.
Chemistry presented their research and work in creating the molecules responsible for what we experience when we walk into a room with fresh brewed coffee or the sensation of eating something chocolaty or with peppermint.

Others learned about “the aroma of Christmas trees and some interesting science on poinsettias and the common spices in the foods we eat this time of year,” commented GHS chemistry teacher Cindy Jackson, who led the project along with teacher Erica Woodyard.

During a reception, school board trustees, administrators, and teachers had a chance to hear the science from chemistry students while enjoying the snacks and beverages prepared and served by culinary students taught by Brianne Langdon and Allison Allen.
