October 8, 2020 

The Anchor, the student-run school store at Granbury High School, held a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Granbury Chamber of Commerce on October 8, 2020. 

The Anchor is run by senior students studying the business marketing pathway. They have completed multiple classes and showed expertise in business and leadership to be chosen to run the store. The goal of The Anchor is to give the students who run the store a real opportunity to run and operate a business so they get experience for the future. 

The Anchor Crew consists of ten seniors: Lauren Aramburu, Emma Castillo, Brenden Ely, Ryan Felton, Cordel Gibson, McLain Golba, Caleb Pritchard, Raines Riddle, Blake Wann, and Brady Willmeth. GHS marketing teacher Kylee Peterson serves as the advisor. 

Students learn a number of business lessons in managing the store – everything from selecting merchandise and pricing to marketing, staffing, and display management.  The group also plans to compete in DECA (formerly Distributive Education Clubs of America) contests for the first time in several years. 

On hand for the ceremony were school officials, chamber staff and ambassadors, and members of the Granbury ISD Education Foundation board of directors. 

The store began in 2016 with a GEF grant in order to launch the school-based enterprise with start-up merchandise.  In 2017, the store received another grant to fund press equipment to help make custom apparel for school clubs, athletics, and organizations. 

The mission of Granbury ISD’s career and technical education program is to offer students quality instructional opportunities in both academic and career-oriented programs of study to successfully prepare students for the challenges of post-secondary education and a globally competitive workforce.
