GISD TALKING POINTS WITH SUPERINTENDENT DR. JAMES LARGENT
August 12, 2015
As we begin another school year, I am more excited than I have ever been about the future of GISD! With the opening of the Crossland Academic Wing at GHS, this year will bring to fruition the next piece of the puzzle in our bond project.
Our entire community should be proud that for the second year in a row, Granbury High School students will be attending one of the top 10% of high schools in the nation, as designated by the U.S. News and World Report. Our Crossland Ninth Grade Center was also awarded this distinction this year for the first time. Our K-8 campuses have all been upgraded with new infrastructure to support our “model classroom” technology. These additions will afford our students and teachers the latest in educational technology to help prepare them for the “real world” outside of our school walls.
I want to especially thank our GHS staff, students, and parents for their patience through the construction process. I keep repeating that long-term gain requires some short-term pain. The front of the high school will mostly be complete when we start school this year, and most of our construction throughout the school year will be limited to the new career and tech center in the rear of the building. We do ask for your continued patience and understanding as we complete the GHS transformation in the upcoming year. I cannot wait to unveil the “new” GHS to our community. I know you will love the facility and will be impressed at what we are able to offer our students.
We appreciate the positive partnerships we have established with local businesses and community groups and look to reach out to others who want to take an interest in our students and our schools. I urge everyone in Granbury to attend ballgames, concerts, theater productions and many other activities that showcase the tremendous talent we have in GISD. It is indeed an honor and pleasure for all of us at GISD to work with the nearly 7,000 children of Granbury and our surrounding areas. If you have not already, we invite you to enthusiastically join the Pirate Nation!
Best wishes for another successful school year!
