With a new gymnasium in the future at Emma Roberson
Elementary School, students are putting their hard hats on to learn about the
construction process.
Through project based learning, students are
observing and predicting what the new gym will look like while also learning
about all the equipment necessary to construct the building expansion. The class is also creating a timeline for the
building process.
Scott Barnes, project manager with the
Buford-Thompson Company, spoke to the students about the training and education
needed for his job to lead all bond construction projects in Granbury ISD. A Granbury High School graduate, Barnes
spends a lot of his time overseeing the high school transformation but is also
in charge of the new gyms at Roberson as well as Acton Elementary School.
Barnes presented a three-dimensional model of the
future gym along with site plans and blueprints.
BTC is the school district’s construction
management company in charge of construction for the $85 million bond initiative
passed by voters in November 2013. Additional information about the bond program is available at
www.granburyisd.org/bond.
