GISD TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT RECEIVES EXEMPLARY SCHOOL AWARD
January
24, 2017

The
Granbury ISD Technology Department received the Exemplary School Award for
excellence in education from Extreme Networks during the monthly school board
meeting on January 23, 2017.
“Educators
seldom get the credit they deserve,” according to Extreme Networks. “We feel a responsibility to call attention to
the innovative educational leaders who are advancing the state of education in
the country.”
The
award signifies GISD’s commitment to a personalized a 21st Century learning
environment. The district has invested
over $10 million in building a robust infrastructure to support model
classrooms and a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative with the ability to
grow with increased student needs and educational standards. Also completed is a fiber optic wide area
network to increase bandwidth at all campuses.
Improvements
include new standardized technology for every classroom, including interactive
and mobile learning devices; classroom audio so that teachers can be heard
clearly while presenting instruction; wireless Internet capability
enhancements; and network operation improvements.
The
investment follows the G2020 strategic plan that established the objective to “have
the technology infrastructure required to provide 100% of our learners access
to the technology tools necessary to compete in an ever-changing world.” The plan adopted in May 2013 had the goal to
create dynamic classrooms and support Project Based Learning curriculum.
