Acton Middle School students converged on the Granbury community during a Day of Service on November 18, 2016.
The hope when announced back in September was to “shower our community with many blessings,” according to principal Jimmy Dawson. The students and staff wanted to “completely flood Granbury to lend a helping hand, give someone some encouragement, help a neighbor, or simply just lift some spirits at Thanksgiving time.”
Groups provided a free band concert at Acton Methodist Church, volunteered at Acton Nature Center and Project 44 Farms, and helped clean up the city and assist with Christmas lights. Students also pitched in at Camp El Tesoro, the Granbury ISD bus barn, schools, nursing homes, and churches.
Service was a central objective of the GISD 2020 strategic plan adopted in May 2013, encouraging students to participate in volunteer activities to assist community organizations and agencies that support the public.
