The Great Gatsby

Freshmen at Crossland Ninth Grade Center celebrated the end of the school year with a “Great Gatsby” party on May 23, 2014.

Students had participated in a film history club led by teachers Heather Fuller and Kellyn Reid. The club met once a week during the school’s Pirate Time, a daily academic preparation period. All freshmen had a choice of numerous clubs to attend.

The Great Gatsby was a 1925 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living on Long Island during the summer of 1922 – during the “Roaring Twenties” and the rise of jazz music. The story primarily follows a mysterious millionaire’s obsession with a beautiful debutante.

The novel has been made into several film versions, including a 2013 motion picture starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
