GHS CHOIR TOURS WASHINGTON WITH CONCERTS, VISITS TO HISTORIC LANDMARKS

The Granbury High School choir toured Washington D.C. on June 5-11, 2014, with concerts and sightseeing in the nation’s capital as well as Colonial Williamsburg.
Students participated in the National Festival of the States beginning with a concert at the World War II Memorial to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Allies’ D-Day invasion at Normandy on June 6, 1944.
The group later performed a sacred program at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the largest Roman Catholic church in the United States and North America and one of the ten largest churches in the world.
Reprising their patriotic program, the choir also sang for veterans and family members residing at the Grand Oaks Assisted Living Facility, a part of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Sibley Memorial Hospital in northwest Washington.
While in Washington, the group visited Arlington National Cemetery, Ford’s Theater, Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Mount Vernon, National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of American History, National Museum of Natural History, U.S. Capitol, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and World War II Memorial. The group also attended a private concert by the U.S. Army Orchestra and U.S. Army Voices, both ensembles of the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”
Student traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia for the last few days of the trip, visiting Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, Yankee Candle Village Store, and Yorktown Victory Center.
Making the trip were Blake Bergeman, Mikhail Bishop, Amanda Brenning, Alexandra Nicole Brown, Shelby Dempsey, Chris Dunn, Jessica English, Mark Hartgraves, Macy Holly, Katrice Johnson, Christopher Lancaster, Katherine Laster, Dakota Medlin, Kaitlyn Meinershagen, Madison Miller, Cody Mullican, Caitlyn Nettles, Dakota Paulo, Erin Pavelick, Joel Reid, Deanna Rupp, Talor Swindle, Emily Talley, Savannah Wark, Jacob Wheeler, Adrian White, and Zach Zagrocki.
Leading the group were choir directors Joy Hope and Greg Doss.
