LIONS CLUB DONATES BOOKS TO SCHOOL LIBRARIES
June 17, 2014

The Granbury Lions Club donated copies of a children’s book to Granbury elementary and middle school libraries during a presentation at the Granbury ISD school board meeting on June 16, 2014.
Texas: Cowboys & Campfires was written by retired Granbury educator Nancy Alana, who is currently serving on the Board of Trustees.
Set in Hood County, the story is historical fiction about three boys who spend time during the summer on the Double A Ranch. The cowboys on the ranch include the boys in their work, at their meals in the bunkhouse, and around the evening campfires where they tell stories about Texas history. The boys learn about David and Elizabeth Crockett, Lizzie Johnson, Charles Goodnight, Oliver Loving, Jesse Chisholm, John Simpson Chisum, Stephen F. Austin, and Sam Houston. They also learn about the historic Granbury Square, the King Ranch, the Dust Bowl, and more.
In October 2012, the Lion’s Club donated copies of Alana’s first book, The Lost Treasure of Lincoln County: A Great American Adventure, to the schools. The donated books are all autographed by the author.
Alana, a former Baccus Elementary School principal, retired in 2008 from GISD after serving 34 years in education. While in this community, she taught fourth grade at Granbury Intermediate School, Acton Elementary School, and Oak Woods Intermediate School. Alana later led the Baccus campus for nine years. In 2009, she was elected to the GISD school board.
