Students from STARS Accelerated High School are
recording oral history interviews of local armed services veterans who are
members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7835.
Four veterans, who served in the U.S. Army during
Vietnam, are the first to participate in the interviews. Others are expected to join the project.
The students are preparing the oral history interviews
for the Veterans History Project, a part of the American Folklife Center at the
Library of Congress.
Students also earn a half credit in digital arts
toward their high school graduation plan.
Funded by the Granbury ISD Education Foundation, the social
studies project is an effort to document the veterans’ service history. “These
hands-on experiences will teach our students video and editing skills while
creating interpersonal relationships and connections with veterans thus strengthening
community awareness,” commented teacher Rhonda Naylor.
