GHS BAND MEMBERS MAKE ALL-REGION
December 14, 2015
Twenty-two
Granbury High School band members were selected for the All-Region Band during recent
tryouts. A record nine are advancing to
the area auditions for a chance to make the All-State Band.
The tryouts for TMEA Region 7 featured
hundreds of students from schools in Fort Worth and areas west to Brownwood and
Brady.

Leading
the contingent was senior Aaron Morgan (pictured at right), who earned first-chair honors among
tuba players. Other GHS and Crossland Ninth
Grade Center students qualifying for the high school region band were:
- Symphonic Band - Reece Ahler, trombone; Lauren Boleng, flute; Melanie Boleng, clarinet; Ian Cone, French horn; Reagan Hall, percussion; Kalvin Hughes, tenor saxophone; Brennan Ross, French horn
- Concert Band – Fernando Barragan, euphonium; Mikayla Hamilton, clarinet; Alex Inbody, clarinet; Mallory Irish, flute; Emma McKelvain, alto saxophone; Henry Shannon, trumpet; Rayni Skaggs, clarinet; Lily Thornton, French horn
Three
students – Lauren Boleng, Hall, and Morgan – also qualified for the All-Region
Orchestra composed of top students in the Symphonic Band.
Ahler,
Lauren Boleng, Melaine Boleng, Cone, Hall, Hughes, Irish, Morgan, and Ross are
advancing to the Area B tryouts scheduled for January 9, 2016, at Midland High
School.
Others
who advanced to the Phase 2 part of the auditions were: Katlyn Backus, French horn; Nic Braby,
trombone; Gavin Clarkson, trombone; Addison Jackson, percussion.
Nine
freshmen from Crossland made the region’s ninth grade band: Max Beckley, bass trombone (first chair); Meghan
Childers, percussion; Ian Cone, French horn (first chair); Mikayla Hamilton,
clarinet; Hunter Harrison, trumpet; Hannah Myers, oboe; Savannah Oliver, alto
saxophone; Angelina Pena, percussion. Two
freshmen – Cone and Hamilton – made both the high school and ninth grade
ensembles.
Auditions
were held on December 3 at Burleson Centennial High School for ninth graders;
December 7 at Aledo High School for the first phase for high school; and
December 12 at Fort Worth Paschal High School for the second high school phase.
The
All-Region Band clinic and concert will be held January 29-30 at Centennial
High School. The orchestra will hold its
events on January 15-16 at Fort Worth Paschal High School.
