PIRATES STING SCORPIONS IN BI-DISTRICT BASEBALL VICTORY

The
Granbury Pirates shut out the Fort Worth South Hills Scorpions 6-0 in the Class
5A bi-district baseball playoffs on May 6, 2016, at South Hills High School.
Pitcher
Landon Weatherly got eleven strikeouts to help the team with the shutout win,
allowing just three hits over the seven-inning game.
The
Pirates scored three runs in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Landon Gray
and a two-run triple by Chance Turney. Bryce Foutz racked up two RBIs on two hits –
on a home run in the fourth inning and on a single during the final inning.
The
team will next face Grapevine in an area playoff series at Brewer High School
in White Settlement. The best-of-three
series will begin on Thursday, May 12 and continue on Friday, May 13 at 7:30
P.M. If necessary, a third and deciding
game will be at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 14. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Granbury
secured third place during District 8-5A play to advance to the post-season. This marked the fifth straight year for the
Pirates to make the playoffs, when the team qualifying seven of the last eight
years.
Members
of the varsity squad are Rustin Beasley, Nash Buescher, Wesley Case, Braden
Derouen, Connor Dixon, Tristan Fallin, Bryce Foutz, Landon Gray, Corbin Harris,
Matthew Hickey, Josh Johnson, Hunter Jones, Lachlyn McPhie, Chandler Roop, Daniel
Tramel, Chance Turney, Andrew Walters, Landon Weatherly, and Kyler Young. Others on the roster for the post-season are Jaxon
Clay, Ethan Current, Cade Hicks, Clayton Jones, Cash McKay, Hayden Tackett, Kade
Turnage, and Hunter Winchester.
Head
coach Brad Eppler is assisted by Trent Phillips, Greg McCarthy, Danny Guidry,
and athletic trainer Andy Rankin. Others
helping the team were statistician Jaxon Castillo, videographer Ben Lillagore,
equipment manager Easton Turnage, and student athletic trainer Jeffrey
Robinson.
