Nelda Wiley Bacon, a 1966 graduate of Granbury High School,
will be honored as the Coming Home Queen at the upcoming GHS Homecoming
festivities on October 3-7, 2016.
She is the daughter of the
late Verna and Ernest Wiley and was the youngest of four children, which also
includes Kathrean Thomas, James Wiley, and Billy Wiley. The family from to Granbury from Weatherford
when Nelda was very small.
Bacon attended Granbury
schools all twelve years, having played basketball and serving as band
majorette while in high school. After
graduation, she attended Weatherford College and continued to play basketball. Bacon later work for Vought Aircraft in Grand
Prairie. She also continued her
education, receiving another associate’s degree in legal secretarial science
from Tarrant County Junior College and a bachelor’s degree in business
administration from Dallas Baptist University.
Bacon retired from the Vought Division of Northrup Grumman/Triumph
Corporation after 35 years with the company.
She has three children –
Melanie Milburn Kennedy, Christopher Bacon, and Jimmy Bacon Jr. – and three
grandchildren – Madison, Graysen, and Nevaeh.
Bacon maintains several
part-time jobs, including serving as administrative assistant at the law
offices for Janet Payne and Matt Mills.
The Coming Home Queen will be honored
at the halftime program during the Granbury-Joshua football game on Friday,
October 7. She will be presented with a flower bouquet by Sherry Moore Jones,
last year’s queen representing the GHS Class of 1965.
