The GHS Pirate Band earned a Division I superior rating at the UIL region marching competition on October 15, 2016, at Burleson Stadium.
The “Moving Parts” marching show, which features music from American composers John Adams and Stephen Melillo, received the top rating from all three judges, who evaluated both Class 5A and 6A groups on Saturday.
“The Pride of Granbury has received first division ratings from all three marching judges at region contest for seven consecutive years,” commented band director Mark Eastin.  “Each year, we are achieving more as a marching ensemble. I am so proud of this year's band and their achievements thus far this season on a very challenging music book and high-demand drill design.”

At the USBands Metroxplex Regional Championship Denton on September 24, the band placed fourth overall during the preliminary performance – and second in Class IV.  Finals were cancelled following a downpour of rain, making the prelims scores final.  The Granbury ensemble followed up with a fourth-place finish at the Little Elm Classic on the Lake on October 8.
Class 5A schools are not eligible to advance past the regional level this year.  However, the band will also participate in USBands REMO Classic in Round Rock on November 5.
