GHS Band
The GHS Pirate Band was named Grand Champion at the USBands REMO Series Finale on November 5, 2016, in Round Rock.
The band won the top prize as well as awards for Best Music and Best Overall Effect during the finals competition held at Kelly Reeves Stadium.  During the preliminary contest earlier in the day, Granbury was Best in Class among the larger schools competing in the marching band festival and also earned class trophies for Best Music, Best Percussion, and Best Visual.
Earning the grand champions honors ends the band’s fall marching season, which also culminated on November 4 with the ensemble’s annual light show following the last home football game.
Last month, the band earned a Division I superior rating at the UIL region marching competition at Burleson Stadium.  The “Moving Parts” marching show, which features music from American composers John Adams and Stephen Melillo, received the top rating from all three judges, who evaluated both Class 5A and 6A groups.  Class 5A schools were not eligible to advance past the regional level this year.
At the USBands Metroplex Regional Championship Denton on September 24, the band placed fourth overall during the preliminary performance – and second in Class IV.  Finals were cancelled following a downpour of rain, making the prelims scores final.  The Granbury ensemble followed up with a fourth-place finish at the Little Elm Classic on the Lake on October 8.
