JANUARY DESIGNATED SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH

January 4, 2021

School Board Recognition Month

January 2021 is designated as School Board Recognition Month, and Granbury ISD is joining with school districts from around the state to recognize the efforts of school board members on behalf of Texas schoolchildren.

Members of the GISD Board of Trustees are: Mark Jackson, president; Barbara Townsend, vice president; Barbara Herrington, Ed.D., secretary; Nancy Alana; Paula McDonald, Ph.D.; Mike Moore; and Chris Willis.

“Our school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district, all without pay. Their goal is always focused on the future success of the children in our district,” commented superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do.”

“It’s more important than ever before that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. Please take a moment and tell school board members ‘thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community.’ Let them know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated,” Dr. Glenn said.

The theme of this year's recognition is "Navigating To Success" reflecting that Texans benefit every day by a group of more than seven thousand men and women in communities across the state, according to the Texas Association of School Boards. These local volunteers are elected by their constituents and receive no compensation for their work as public servants.

“School boards play a vital role in our efforts to improve education in the Lone Star State,” wrote Governor Greg Abbott in a resolution.  “Across Texas, dedicated school boards work with parents, educators, and community members to create successful learning environments. Our school boards have also been instrumental in our state’s educational response to COVID-19 by leading their districts in implementing safety measures, coordinating and facilitating online learning, and providing support to administrative staff, teachers, parents, and students.”

The governor continued, “While school districts will always face new challenges as they serve the needs of students, Texans can count on their school board members, along with other dedicated school officials, to weather these trials, create opportunities to discuss important issues, develop innovative solutions, and empower educators while remaining focused on their students’ futures.”
