Granbury High School senior Courtney Smith, a member of the Lady Pirate volleyball team, announced her plans to continue her playing career at Georgia State University during a signing ceremony on January 20, 2021, in the Pirate Pavilion.
The Panthers’ beach volleyball team competes in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association as part of NCAA Division I athletics. The college is located in Atlanta.
A four-year varsity letterman, Smith was named to the Under Armour All-America Watch List by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She was twice on the athletic district’s honorable mention list as a sophomore, on the second team as a junior, and then Utility Player of the Year for District 5-5A as a senior. Smith also received Academic All-State honors. The GHS senior also plays for the Lady Pirate basketball team.
At the ceremony were Smith’s mother and stepfather, Tabitha and Adam Murphey, as well as other family members. Also attending were teammates along with GHS head coach Desiree Shahan and assistant coaches Katie Cowan and Alex Oppenborn.
