The Stowaways dance and drill team from Granbury High School won Super Sweepstakes at the MA Dance & Visual FX Regional Championship on February 27, 2021, at Birdville High School. 

“To say we are excited is an understatement about how competition finished for our team today,” commented director Shelby Carter.  “With COVID-19, snowmageddon, and other crazy things in 2020-2021, our team pulled off an amazing competition.” 

Both the officers and team won the sweepstakes honors among large classic teams composed of 26-35 students. 

In addition to awards for overall choreography and overall technique, the officers won first place for their group as well as jazz, novelty, and pom routines.  The officers also receive the judge’s award for the novelty dance. 

For the overall team, awards earned were for overall choreography and team as well as first-place honors for jazz, prop, and pom routines.  The squad also received a judge’s award for the team prop dance. 

Competing from GHS were: 

  • Officers:  captain Lu Johns De La Garza, senior lieutenant Olivia Iturralde, junior lieutenants Hannah Rogers and Kiana Mulverhill, and sophomore lieutenant Victoria Burkey
  • Team Members:  Avery Arnett, Abigail Boyd, Denis Brakel, Faith Brown, Rylie Cox, Arian Daniels, Lillie Davis, Kiley Dove, Eellis Evans, Haven Gallegos, Emory Gilbert, Rylee Henthorn, E'Leena Hull, Sienna Infante, Samantha Kolenovsky, Kayla Kraus, Aleksandra Lukasiak, Madison Maxwell, Rylie Moses, Kylee Patino, Julia Paul, Madison Smith, Sophia Valadez, Taylor Waller

The Stowaways will next compete at the Showtime International Spring Specatuclar on Saturday, March 6 at North Forney High School.
