GHS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM LEADS BRAWER MILER’S CLUB KICKOFF
August 27, 2021
The Granbury Pirate cross country team helped kick off the Miler’s Club at Brawner Elementary School on August 27, 2021.
Through the Miler’s Club, students are challenged to run miles and then are recognized for being the top runners or for completing certain distance benchmarks. Students learn about physical fitness, and physical education teacher Sonja Chastain will use other subjects such as math and social studies to measure the progress of students, classes, and the school as a whole.
For the GHS team, the runners have already competed in the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational on August 21. The team will also participate in the Paschal Invitational on August 28, Midlothian meet on September 2, Mansfield Legacy meet on September 17, and the Brewer Invitational on October 8.
Granbury will host the 7th Annual Race for the Loot on October 1 and an earlier middle school contest on September 29. Both events will be held at the Granbury Disc Golf Course.
The District 5-5A contest will be October 15. District competition includes runners from Aledo, Azle, Brewer, Granbury, Wichita Falls, and Wichita Falls Rider.
The head coach is Amber Ward, who also oversees girls track. She is assisted by Steve Weeks.
