Academic progress at Granbury Middle School has led to recognition by the Texas Education Agency, according to a Granbury ISD announcement on September 16, 2021.

With student gains, GMS is now demonstrating sufficient progress to merit an alternative evaluation for 2021. The achievement is notable given the instructional lag facing students throughout the state and nation because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The staff and culture at GMS has always been hard working to give our students the very best we can,” said GISD assistant superintendent Tammy Clark, who led the GMS as campus principal during the last two school years.  “With all the normal and not-so-normal challenges, we became very intentional regarding academic growth and student success to push towards on-level learning.”

“This is a credit to all who have worked so hard for the students of GMS,” commented GMS principal Dr. Andy Smith in a message to teachers and staff. “That hard work showed in the achievement of our students. I am so proud of what you have accomplished.”

School districts and campuses have not received letter-grade accountability ratings for the past two years due to the pandemic, which led to the closure of school buildings in Spring 2020 and a variety of academic challenges as schools reopened during the 2020-21 school year.

In 2019, GMS was rated as underperforming and required to implement a targeted improvement plan to address student academics that was focused on three areas:  objective-driven lesson plans with formative assessments; data-driven instruction; and compelling and aligned vision, mission, goals, and values focused on a safe environment and high expectations.

“This was all due to your time, effort, dedication, and intentionality with our students.  I’m excited to see GMS continue to grow and help increasingly more of our students find success,” Clark added in the message to teachers. “Keep pushing on to conquer the next success goals set with our awesome team working together with intention. You make great things happen despite any and all challenges.”
