Granbury High School graduate Sam Spradlin recently received a four-year $18,000 college scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The award was presented during the Texas 4-H Roundup on June 11, 2015, in College Station.

A former Granbury FFA president, Spradlin was a member of the GHS Class of 2015. He plans to attend Texas Tech University to major in animal science.

In March, Spradlin won first place in class 5 of market medium wool lamb in the Houston show and sold his lamb through the Sale of Champions. As a 4-H state council member, he was also in Austin for the 4-H Day at the Capitol.

The 4-H program, which is part of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, prepares youth to meet the challenges of childhood, adolescence and adulthood, through educational experiences in leadership, citizenship and life skills.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo awarded seventy scholarships totaling $1.26 million to 4-H members during the state organization’s event.
