Second graders at Nettie Baccus Elementary School showed off their writing skills during an author’s reception on May 29, 2015.

“Have you ever wanted to see your writing in a color, hard bound, published book?” the teachers asked when applying for a grant from the Granbury ISD Education Foundation last fall. GEF provided $1,750 to fund the project.

The classes used the activity as a culminating experience to a year’s worth of writing, editing, grammar, friendship building and spelling. Each student interviewed a fellow friend, organized, pre-wrote, edited, wrote, edited again, and illustrated their writing.

During the reception, parents, fellow students, and other guests had a chance to peruse the new publications and ask questions of the new authors.

The second grade team includes teachers Suzanne Back, Dana Reinke, George Robinson, and Lori Williams.
