SCENES FROM AROUND GRANBURY ISD

 

GISD school trustees approved a guaranteed maximum price for the transformation of Granbury High School (pictured above) and the construction of new gyms at Acton Elementary School and Emma Roberson Elementary School.  The GHS construction begins mid-November and will last through Summer 2016. The AES and Roberson gyms will begin in March.  The projects are both funded through bond initiatives passed by GISD voters last November.

 


ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS TONIGHT: The Lady Pirates will face Fort Worth South Hills in the bi-district volleyball playoffs at 7:00 P.M. tonight (Monday, November 3) at Mansfield Legacy High School. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

 

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION TOMORROW: Election Day is tomorrow (Tuesday, November 4). Voters may cast ballots at their local polling location from 7am-7pm. Candidates for GISD school board are: Place 1 - Virg A. Thomas and Chris Tacket; Place 2 - Barbara Herrington (unopposed). For polling locations, go to www.granburyisd.org/election.

 

EARLY DISMISSAL FRIDAY: Schools will dismiss classes early on Friday, November 7. Elementary and intermediate campuses will dismiss at 11:45 A.M. The middle schools, Crossland Ninth Grade Center, and Granbury High School will dismiss at 1:00 P.M. Buses will transport students home early based on this schedule.All STARS Accelerated High School students will meet during the morning session from 8:15 A.M.-12:15 P.M. For participating students, the Extended School Day Program will be open until 6:00 P.M. at all elementary schools.

 

HEALTHY WOMAN EVENT:  Lake Granbury Medical Center's annual Healthy Woman event is coming up on Saturday, November 8 at Acton Middle School.  The event includes a free vendor and shopping expo from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M.. A noon luncheon follows with keynote speaker Dena Dyer. Luncheon tickets for $15 are on sale now. Click here for more information.

 

BOND CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS: Follow GISD bond projects at www.granburyisd.org/bond for news, important documents (timeline and financial recap), and other information related to these projects which include transforming GHS, enhancing career and technical education and fine arts programs, building a robust technology infrastructure for model classrooms, improving campus safety and security, and many other improvements.

GISD SPORTS ROUNDUP: GHS Team Tennis - Region I-5A Tournament

October 31, 2014 - GHS team tennis fell 10-0 to state-ranked Grapevine in the first round of the Region I-5A tournament on Friday morning at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. This marked the fourth straight appearance for Granbury at the regional competition.

October 30, 2014 -Thursday's subvarsity football vs. Aledo: JV fell 51-0 at home; 9th Purple (42-0) and 9th Gold (40-8) both fell away.

October 30, 2014 - AMS volleyball season finale vs. Joshua: 8th Purple won 25-19, 25-21; 8th Gold fell 20-25, 22-25; 8th White fell 13-25, 21-25; 7th Purple won 19-25, 25-11, 25-21; 7th Gold won 25-8, 25-6; 7th White won 27-25, 25-23.

October 28, 2014 - Lady Pirates def. Everman (25-11, 25-10, 25-15) in volleyball regular season finale on Tuesday. JV (25-8, 25-9), 9th Purple (25-11, 25-15), and 9th Gold (25-18, 23-25, 25-18) all won too.

October 28, 2014 - AMS football vs. Burleson Kerr: 8th Purple fell 20-14; 8th Gold fell 14-8; 8th White fell 24-8; 7th Purple won 22-20; 7th Gold fell 20-0; 7th White fell 8-0.

 

GISD SPORTS ROUNDUP:  GHS JV Girls Golf - Keller Fossil Ridge Invitational

October 28, 2014 - JV Lady Pirates competed at the Keller Fossil Ridge Invitational at Willow Springs Golf Course in Haslet on Tuesday. Trisha Richards placed fifth after shooting a career low of 93. Other girls playing as medalists were Reagan Wilkinson (107) and Rhegan Howard (113).

GISD SPORTS ROUNDUP: CNGC Girls Golf - Burleson Centennial JV Tournament

October 27, 2014 - Freshman girls won second place at the Burleson Centennial JV tourney on Monday at Southern Oaks Golf Club. Kylie Moore was the leader at 110 followed byy Jenni Prater (111), Zoe Strickland (114), Mattie Allen (116), Mia Jo Munoz (117), and Kaylie Garcia (119).

 

GISD SPORTS ROUNDUP:  CNGC Boys Golf - Fall Fling Tournament

October 27, 2014 - Freshman boys shot 385 at the Fall Fling golf tourney on Monday at Mansfield National Golf Club. Hunter Trice led the squad with 87 followed by Andrew Dunn (95), Hayden Moore (97), David Scott (106), and Seth Johnson (108).

 

GISD SPORTS ROUNDUP: GHS/CNGC Swimming - Western Hills Haunted Sprint Spooktacular

October 25, 2014 - The GHS swim team won the 1st Annual Western Hills High School Haunted Sprint Spooktacular meet on Saturday morning at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth. The overall team, girls, and boys all won first place.

 

TOP GRANBURY STUDENTS HONORED BY PARENTS FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
