Robert Herrera, the principal of West Elementary
School in White Settlement ISD, will be the new principal of Nettie Baccus
Elementary School. The appointment was
made by the Granbury ISD Board of Trustees during its regular meeting on June 20,
2016. “Robert has so many strengths that make him the
perfect fit for Baccus Elementary,” commented superintendent Dr. James
Largent. “He has experience as an
elementary principal, is bilingual, and brings a great wealth of knowledge
about curriculum, increasing parent involvement, and supporting staff. The staff members who were involved on our
interview committee are ecstatic with this recommendation, and we look forward
to working with him.” The new Baccus principal has been in White
Settlement for the last three years. Herrera
began his educational career in 2001 as a math teacher at Donna Shepard
Intermediate School in Mansfield. He
later served as a campus instructional coach at Lakeview Elementary School in
Trophy Club as well as assistant principal at schools in both Crowley and
Saginaw. Herrera
holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington.
He has attended several Professional Learning Community Institutes with teams
of teachers and administrators and was also awarded a $30,000 grant from
Project Fit America, a program creating new opportunities for kids to be
active, fit, and healthy. He succeeds Leslie Tewell, who is departing
Granbury to be principal of an elementary campus in the Keller school district.
