Chad Zschiesche is the new head coach for the
Granbury Pirate football team after his appointment was made official by the
Granbury ISD Board of Trustees during a special meeting on June 24, 2016. “We
had many outstanding candidates for our coaching position. After an
extensive interview process, Coach Zschiesche was our selection for many
reasons. He has coached at all levels, from junior high to varsity, and
in small and large schools,” commented superintendent Dr. James Largent.
CHAD ZSCHIESCHE NAMED PIRATE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
June 24, 2016

Zschiesche was the offensive coordinator for
Mansfield Summit High School before moving to Byron Nelson High School this
spring in the same role to follow his mentor, Coach Travis Pride. At Summit, he helped the Jaquars reach the playoffs
in five of the past six seasons, with the team finishing 2015 with a 10-2 record
overall while ranking among the top ten teams in the state.
“Having coached for fifteen years, I have developed
a strong understanding of the loyalty, vigor, dedication, and time required to
be exceptional,” the coach remarked.
The new head coach began his career at GHS in 2001
before moving to Hico, where he was offensive coordinator and head baseball
coach from 2002-2006. He then spent
three years at Wichita Falls High School coaching offensive linemen and powerlifters.
A
native of Plainview, Zschiesche holds a Bachelor of Science in both exercise/sports
studies and biology from Tarleton State University, where he later earned a
master’s degree in physical education.
“Coach Zschiesche has a plan for building a program
in Granbury,” Largent continued. “He is
enthusiastic and a ‘kid magnet.’ We
received great recommendations from many people about his qualifications, work
ethic, and overall readiness for our job.”
GHS was realigned for the 2016
and 2017 seasons into the new District 9-5A with previous rivals Burleson,
Burleson Centennial, Cleburne, Crowley, Everman, and Joshua. Joining the group is Arlington Seguin, which
replaces outgoing district opponent Aledo.
The Pirates kick off their
regular season the following week at home against the Fort Worth Western Hills
Cougars on Friday, August 26 at 7:30 P.M. Other home games will feature the Pirates taking on: Crowley (Friday, September 30), Joshua
(Friday, October 7), Burleson Centennial (Friday, October 21), and Arlington
Seguin (Friday, November 4). All home
games will be played at Johnny Perkins Field at Pirate Stadium beginning at
7:30 P.M.
The team will travel for five
matchups: Carrollton R.L. Turner
(Friday, September 2), Springtown (Friday, September 9), Burleson (Friday,
September 23), Everman (Friday, October 14), and Cleburne (Friday, October
28). All games will begin at 7:30 P.M.
with the exception of the matchup at R.L. Turner, which will start at 7:00 P.M.
“We are excited to have Coach Zschiesche in
Granbury, and he cannot wait to get to work,” said athletic director Dwight
Butler. “He will be setting up meetings
with coaches, players and parents in the very near future to discuss his
expectations for the future of the Pirate Nation.”
Zschiesche succeeds Scotty Pugh, who coached the
team since 2008 before departing this summer to lead the Orange Grove Bulldogs.
