Two prospective head coaches have been named finalists to lead Granbury High School athletic teams beginning in the 2017-18 school year.  Their appointments are subject to approval by the Granbury ISD school board.

Ashley Benson and Tim Brewer are the head coaching finalists for the softball and tennis programs respectively. The two could succeed departing coaches Erinn Jayjohn (softball) and Tyson Stewart (tennis), who both will be leading programs at John Marshall Harlan High School, a new campus part of Northside ISD in San Antonio.

Benson is currently an assistant coach in Joshua, where she has worked since 2012.  She is a varsity assistant and also is the junior varsity head coach.  A graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, Benson was a four-year starter for the college team.  At Joshua’s ninth grade campus, she has also coached volleyball and served as the world geography department head.

“Ashley has extremely high qualifications,” commented GISD athletic director Dwight Butler.  “I really liked her knowledge and enthusiasm as well as her plan to build on the successful of this year’s softball program.”

Brewer currently is a tennis coach in the Cedar Creek school district.  He is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in sport management.  In high school, he was a four-time state qualifier in fall team tennis and was a silver medalist and two-time bronze medalist in state boys doubles competitions.

“We are excited to have Tim join our Pirate Family,” Butler said.  “Tim learned the game from Coach Stewart, and he is highly recommended.  He will be an asset in taking the program forward.”

The school board will consider the coaching appointments at its next monthly meeting on June 19.
