The Granbury Optimist Club awarded over $23,000 in college scholarships to Hood County graduating seniors at the club’s breakfast on May 19, 2020, at Grump’s outdoor pavilion.
Memorial scholarships were presented to:
Briggs Berry Memorial Scholarship: Nataleigh Wilson, Granbury
Chuck Black Memorial Scholarship: Joseph Dias, Granbury
Willie Crossland Memorial Scholarship: Peyton Ham, Tolar
Paul Drake Memorial Scholarship: Bailey Carlton, Granbury
Gerald and Valta Heffley Memorial Scholarship: Mikayla Roach, North Central Texas Academy
Tom Wagley Memorial Scholarship: Morgan Hansen, Granbury
Students awarded scholarships named for benefactors to the club’s auction were:
Carey and Sons Scholarship: Abby Bent, Granbury
Durant Scholarship: Caeley Cody, Granbury
Receiving scholarships to Weatherford College were: Gloria Dominguez, Granbury; Bailey Nix, Granbury; Whitley Townes, Granbury.

Honored earlier in the school year, Granbury seniors recognized as Young Texans and Tex-Annes and receiving $500 scholarships were Kyla Asante-Wiredu, Maverick Campbell, Caeley Cody, Cash Deason, Joseph Dias, Ethan Genn, Kent Hamatani, Alexis Hansen, Brock Holmgreen, Subin Hong, Emily Kelly, Amerson Meyers, Syrah Mitchell, Kylie Pickett, Elizabeth Shelton, Migel Trujillo, Nathaniel Valdez, and Carter Worthington.
The Optimist Club supports local schools and youth organizations, sponsors the Young Texan and Tex-Anne program, and awards numerous scholarships.
