Granbury High School law and public safety students are advancing to state competition after excelling at the Texas Public Service Association’s Northwest regional contest on February 15, 2020, at GHS.
Students placing at the TPSA regional event were:
- Cell Extraction: Luis Garcia, James Guy Hammond, Garrett Lewis, Jose Oviedo, Hunter Seybert, Anthony Blake Spiers, second
- Felony Traffic Stop: Jonathan Falcon, Maxwell Glenney, Jose Oviedo, Austin Sommerfeld, second
- Law Enforcement Agility: Brandon Noseworthy, first
Law and public safety is part of the Granbury ISD career and technical education program. Classes are offered to provide overviews for jobs in public service as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement. Students explore the legal system in addition to constitutional and criminal law through mock trials, traffic stops, arrest procedures, and court systems. Advanced courses are available in criminal investigation, forensic science, forensic psychology, and practicums with local agencies.
Former Hood County deputy Cari Davis Conwell leads the law and public safety classes. Serving as mentors are individuals with the Granbury Police Department and Hood County Sheriff’s Office.
The TPSA state competition will be held in April in Galveston.
