MAMBRINO EARNS PROJECT LEAD THE WAY HONORS FOR SECOND YEAR

June 17, 2021

PLTW Distinguished School

For a second straight year, the STEAM Academy at Mambrino has been recognized as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through PLTW Launch.

Mambrino is one of only a few hundred elementary schools across the United States to receive this honor for increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. To be eligible for the designation, Mambrino offered at least two PLTW Launch modules at each grade level and have more than 75 percent of the student body participating.

“This PLTW recognition is due solely to the efforts of the talented and dedicated teaching staff at Mambrino,“ commented principal Heather Boisjolie. “Our teachers fully commit to the inquiry design process because we believe hands on learning provides an unparalleled educational experience for our students. We look forward to continuing to provide rigorous and innovative instruction to serve the students of GISD as we prepare them for the future.”

The academy focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, the arts, and Mathematics.  There is daily implementation of the inquiry design process, utilization of specialized curricula.  The PLTW program is used in Granbury High School engineering courses as well as classes at Acton Middle School and Granbury Middle School for introductory and advanced Inventions and Innovations courses.

PLTW is a mission-driven organization that is transforming the learning experience for millions of K-12 students and thousands of teachers across the U.S. PLTW empowers students to develop in-demand, transportable knowledge and skills through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

Last year, Mambrino was named a National School of Character by Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character, for the school demonstrating its use of character development to drive a positive impact on academics, student behavior, and school climate. That designation is in place for five years.
