Tammy Clark and Jimmy Dawson were named new assistant superintendents for Granbury ISD by school board trustees on June 21, 2021.
Clark is currently the principal of Granbury Middle School, while Dawson is the district career and technical education director. They succeed outgoing assistant superintendents Ron Holmgreen and Dobie Williams. Holmgreen is the lone finalist to be the next superintendent at Brock ISD, while Williams recently became the deputy superintendent of business operations for Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD.
“Having Ms. Clark and Mr. Dawson in these leadership roles will focus the district’s goals on increasing academic progress,” commented GISD superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn. “Both are experienced and committed to our district’s goal of becoming an educational destination.”
Clark has been the GMS principal since July 2019. She previously served as the GHS academic dean and earlier as an assistant principal in a dual role while maintaining duties as head volleyball coach. At the high school, she had also taught integrated physics and chemistry, health, physical education, physics, and French with several courses at the Advanced Placement level.
As volleyball coach for 16 seasons, Clark came to Granbury in 2002 as an assistant before moving up to the lead position a year later. By 2009, she helped the team end a post-season drought that had left the Lady Pirates on the sidelines since 1996. Under her leadership, Granbury teams advanced to the regional quarterfinals for four seasons before breaking through to make back-to-back showings in the regional finals in 2013 and 2014.
Clark began her educational career in 1997 at Sinton, where she taught science and coached volleyball, basketball, and track at both the middle school and high school level. She earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Universite de Bordeaux in France in 1997 and later received a master’s degree in secondary education in 2000 from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.
Dawson was named the district CTE director in May 2020 and has lead the department through a comprehensive review on programs of study, helping bring a new four-year aviation program to the high school. He previously was principal of both Acton Middle School (2008-2020) and Granbury Middle School (2003-2007).
After beginning his educational career in 1993 as a teacher and coach in the Panhandle town of Borger, Dawson eventually became an assistant principal in that school district before becoming an elementary school principal in Plainview. A native of Canyon, he holds a bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University and a master’s degree from West Texas A&M University with post-graduate work at Texas Tech University.
Dawson received the Instructional Leader Award from the Effective Schools Project at Tarleton State University in 2010. In 2018, he received the “Because We Care” Award from the United Way of Hood County for helping spearhead the GISD Day of Service initiative. Dawson also helped the AMS campus earn the “Texas School to Watch” designation in 2016.
For the district’s business office, finance and facilities director Emmett Whitefield will become the district’s new chief financial officer and will continue overseeing facility and maintenance operations.
