Members of the Granbury Marine Corps JROTC shined at the Lubbock “Westerner” air rifle tournament on September 13, 2014.

The top squad from Granbury High School – composed of Cody Bogle, Hunter Dowell, Kayla Hitshew, and Tyler Morrissette – won third place overall. Morrissette led the squad with an impressive score of 567 (out of 600), earning a spot in the finals along with Dowell. On an individual basis, the two finished seventh and eighth respectively.

Also receiving individual awards were Chris Hitshew, who earned second in the standing position, and Freeman Hawker, who won third in the kneeling position. G’Angela Pickett shot a personal best in the competition with a score of 556.

The team also includes Jacob Fleshman, Kollin Ladesic, and Stephen Schofield.

“I thought it was a good start to the season,” said Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor and the team’s coach.  “I was really proud of the effort our team put forth. The hard work in practice leading up to this really showed.”

The competition hosted by Lubbock High School’s Navy JROTC featured seventy shooters who are among the best high school competitors from New Mexico and Texas.

The team next competes at the Horned Frog Invitational on October 5 at Texas Christian University.
