JROTC COMPETES IN MARKSMANSHIP CONTESTS

The Granbury
Marine Corps JROTC competed in the 9th Annual William J. Bordelon Air Rifle
Tournament and the Civilian Marksmanship Program State Championship Tournament
at Central Catholic High School in San Antonio on October 25-26, 2014.
The first match consisted of
air rifle position shooting twenty shots in the prone position, twenty shots in
the standing position and twenty shots in the knelling
position.
Hunter Dowell led the team
with a total score of 576 out of 600 and placed ninth out of the field of 60
shooters, and the team – which also included Cody Bogle, Freeman Hawker, Chris
Hitshew, Kayla Hitshew, Tyler Morrissette, G’Angela Pickett, and Stephen
Schofield– finished with a solid score of 2269 that positioned them in third
place. Competing individually were Jacob Fleshman and Kollin Ladesic in the
sporter category.
On the second day, the cadets
shot in an International Standing Match that consisted of forty shots in the
standing position. Morrisette led the team with a score of 370 out of 400
placing thirteenth, while the team placed third overall.
Over
150 high school students participated in the largest competition held in South
Texas. The match was the first competition for the Granbury team in the
precision category.
“I was very happy with all
of the cadets scores especially our freshman Shooters, Kayla Hitshew and
G’Angela Pickett. They performed well in
their very first national-level match,” commented coach Lt Col. Scott Casey,
the Senior Marine Instructor. “The team
worked hard this weekend and it was evident in the team’s highest score to date
in a competition.”
