JROTC RIFLE TEAM SHINES AT JUNIOR OLYMPICS TRIALS

Members of the Granbury Marine Corps JROTC shined at the Junior Olympic Air Rifle Trials held January 10-11, 2015, on the campus of Texas Christian University.
 
Granbury High School was represented by Cody Bogle, Hunter Dowell, Freeman Hawker, Chris Hitshew, Kayla Hitshew, Tyler Morrissette, G’Angela Pickett, and Brittney Pinckard.
 
Dowell posted an impressive 554 out of a possible 600 in air rifle, placing him second in the state. In addition to competing in air rifle, Freeman Hawker, Chris Hitshew, and Kayla Hitshew also shot the small bore portion of the match with Chris Hitshew placing first in his age category.
 
The field of shooters featured some of the best high school and college competitors from all over the state, according to Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor.
 
“The contest is the first step in the development of any junior shooter and his or her Olympic path,” said Casey. “I’m very proud how our cadets did at this competition. This was a good opportunity for the team to see where we are in regards to scores needed for the service championships next month.”
 
The team will next compete at the JROTC Service Championships on February 19-21in Anniston, Alabama.
