The Granbury Marine Corps JROTC precision teams competed in the JROTC Service Championships on February 19-21, 2015, in Anniston, Alabama. One squad received a bid to the national-level contest featuring the best JROTC units from all service branches.

Representing Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center were students Cody Bogle, Hunter Dowell, Jacob Fleshman, Freeman Hawker, Chris Hitshew, Kayla Hitshew, Kollin Ladesic, Katherine Lambert, Tyler Morrissette, G’Angela Pickett, and Brittney Pinckard.

“The cadets shot great over the two-day competition,” said Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor. “It was good to see all of the hard work by our cadets paying off with some impressive scores.”

The GHS teams placed second and third overall at the contest. The squad of Bogle, Dowell, Kayla Hitshew, and Lambert received a bid to shoot against the best JROTC units in the nation at Camp Perry, Ohio in March.

“Getting a bid to nationals at Camp Perry is the highest level you can achieve,” Casey commented. “This is a remarkable accomplishment and the first time in the history of the Granbury program.”

At the end of the contest, Bogle, Dowell, and Morrissette participated in a finals match featuring the top eight shooters taking ten shots from the standing position. Bogle shot the high score posting an impressive 100 out of a possible 109 points.
