Granbury Marine Corps JROTC cadets Cody Bogle and Hunter Dowell participated in the USA Shooting’s Junior Olympics on April 30-May 2, 2015, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Bogle posted a career-high score of 1190.4 out of a possible 1308 score, placing him 72nd out of field of over 200 competitors. Dowell also posted a career best with 1181.4, ranking him at 92nd.

“I’m very impressed with their first showing at the Junior Olympics, considering a number of the competitors are currently in college shooting on a Division I NCAA team,” stated Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor.

In addition to the competition, the cadets experienced the life of an Olympian by residing at the U.S. Olympic Complex. The OTC is the flagship training center for the U.S. Olympic Committee and serves as the headquarters for both USA Shooting and USA Swimming.

“The experience was amazing for our cadets,” commented Lt. Col. Casey. “They were able to attend clinics taught by current Olympians and obtain national competitive experience. I’m excited to see how many of cadets qualify for this great experience next year.”

The two Granbury High School students advanced based on qualifying scores in the state Junior Olympics tryouts held in January at Texas Christian University.
