MARINE CORPS JROTC CADETS RECEIVE AWARDS

Marine Corps JROTC cadets from Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center attended an awards ceremony on May 14, 2014, in the GHS Bagby-McMahan Performing Arts Center.
 
Local military organizations presented scholarships and cash awards to top cadets: 
  • American Legion Post 278:  Rebecca Anderson for military excellence and Hunter Dowell for scholastic excellence (both include $1,000 scholarships)
  • American Legion Post 491: senior Rebecca Anderson and underclassman Blake Estes for military excellence; senior Jacob Fleshman and underclassman Daniel Adams for scholastic excellence
  • Daughters of the American Revolution/Elizabeth Crockett Chapter Bronze Medal: Haley Laney (includes a $150 scholarship)
  • Marine Corps League/Comanche Peak Detachment Eagle Award:  Stephen Schofield
  • Military Officers Association of America JROTC Scholarships: Rebecca Anderson and Sierra Smith (both will receive $2,500 scholarships)
  • Sons of the American Revolution/Brazos Valley Chapter JROTC Bronze Medal: Hunter Dowell (includes a $450 scholarship)

Other award recipients were:

  • Commander Burns Academic Excellence Award: Jacob Fleshman (includes a $100 scholarship)
  • Daedalian Achievement Award: Stephen Schofield
  • Devil Dog Award (most motivated male cadet): Valen Webb
  • Fort Worth Scottish Rite Award: Jacob Fleshman
  • Marine Corps Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy: Hayle Carlile Kiran Lachman (both will receive $1,000 scholarships from the Marine Corps League/Comanche Peak Detachment to cover travel expenses)
  • Military Officers Association of America Medal: Hayle Carlile
  • Military Order of the Purple Heart: Valen Webb
  • Military Order of the World Wars Bronze Medal: Freeman Hawker
  • Molly Marine Award (most motivated female cadet): Rebecca Anderson
  • National Guard Award of Excellence: Dalton Robinson
  • National Sojourners Award: Kiran Lachman
  • Reserve Officer Association Medal: Hayle Carlile
  • Southwest Youth Leadership Camp: Stephen Schofield
  • United States Coast Guard Award: Matthew McLellan and Aimee Selman
  • United State Naval Academy Summer Seminar: Hunter Dowell (includes a $1,000 scholarship from American Legion Post 278 to cover travel expenses)
  • Women Marines Association Award for Outstanding Cadet: Shayla Sattterfield
Cadet battalion staff members are Lt. Col. Rebecca Anderson, commanding officer; Major Sierra Smith, executive officer; Sgt. Major Daniel Alaniz; 2nd Lt. Adam Felan, S-1 administration officer; Staff Sgt. Hayle Carlile, S-3 operations officer; and 1st Lt. Stephen Schofield, S-4 logistics officer.
